Stylish & Productive Home Office Design Guide

Working from home isn't just a phase—it’s a lifestyle evolution. Whether you are an entrepreneur, an investor, or supporting your family with multiple jobs, your home office should be functional, but also should be inspiring, energizing, and beautiful - and tell your story! At L+P Interiors, we believe your workspace should be designed with as much thought as any other room in your home, personal, beautiful and reflective of how you live and work.

L+P Interiors can help you to create a workspace that is full of stories, whether you are doing a complete renovation, or just looking to redesign a spare nook to work from.

The Functional Foundation: Layout, Lighting & Location

A great design starts with how a space works. The layout of a home office can dictate how effectively the space works for its intended purpose. At L + P Interiors, we are cognizant as every office connects to the rest of the house — access to natural light, adjacent to high traffic areas, points of focus in architecture, circulation patterns, etc.

A new client from Sausalito had a small corner room that faced the water for an office. We highlighted the space by defining the desk to frame the view and layered the sources of light (ambient pendants, task sconces, and natural daylight) around custom cabinetry that melted into the wall. The result: a clean, high-functioning space where form and function worked together, not opposed.

We approach lighting with nuance. Natural light is essential, but layered lighting—accent, task, and ambient—creates flexibility for everything from Zoom calls to deep creative focus.

Your home should work as hard as you do. Explore how we build form + function into every detail → View our Projects.

The LP Philosophy: Designing from Your Story

We do not design according to trends—we design for you. At L+P Interiors, every project begins with discovering the personal story of the space. Your home office should reflect your rhythm, your style, and your goals.

In one project in Belvedere, the client was splitting their time between tech consulting and abstract painting when they came to us for an office studio. We created a sunny, neutral-hued workspace, layered textures, hidden storage, and a movable wall with easels and a space to hold painting supplies. Yes, it also looked beautiful, but more importantly, it was personal.

Designing from your story creates spaces with staying power. It means fewer design regrets, more emotional connection, and a room you’ll want to work in.

We begin every project by learning your story. Begin yours with us → Book a Discovery Call.

Balancing Style & Substance: Materials, Finishes & Function

At L+P Interiors, form and function are always intertwined. We want a well-designed workspace to be tactile and durable, from the texture of the wood in the desk to the pull of a custom drawer, we select materials that elevate the everyday. Think luxurious textiles, textures, and finishes like bouclé chairs, stone desktops, leather inlays, and even soft matte finishes. In a St. Helena home, we design a quietly luxurious office space mixed with walnut millwork, fluted cabinet doors, and mixed-metal finishes. That also accommodated kids, dogs, and wine tasting.

We stay aware of design trends—like warm minimalism, curved lines, or earthy neutrals—but we adapt them subtly, ensuring your space feels collected, not off-the-shelf. Our spaces feel lived in, loved, and uniquely yours.

The Details That Matter: Ergonomics & Practical Details

The mark of an elegant space is that it does not sacrifice comfort. We design invisibly ergonomic spaces, spaces that can be sustained for long hours without signaling "office."

Everything counts: the height of your screen, the tilt of your chair, where your wrists float, and how your feet are anchored to the ground. We usually specify an adjustable seating custom to the design language of the room. And, storage becomes sculpture—built-ins that conceal everything except beauty.

In a recent project, we manufactured cabinets with panel faces that concealed printers, tech hubs, and a sea of cable while allowing access and ventilation to the devices. The office presented like a sitting room—but functioned like command central.

Comfort is the new chic. Let’s design a space that disappears into your flow → Schedule a Consultation.

Design for the Life You Live: Multi-Use Magic

Most homes do not have single-use rooms anymore, we regularly create home offices that serve as guest rooms, creative studios, studies, or quiet reading spaces. Flexibility is key, but we do not have to give up style.

In one Nantucket project, we turned a rarely used attic into a warm, multi-use area. During the day, it provided a peaceful back office for the homeowner to write, at night it transformed into a cozy guest suite with a pull-down bed. We include sliding wood panels to hide office clutter and zoned lighting for mood and task.

Your needs evolve—your home should, too.

The LP Approach: Collaborative, Considered, Custom

The process is part intuitive, part methodical. We lead our clients through each phase from discovery to design development to installation in a methodical way while using warmth, clarity, and our obsession with detail.

Even clients who walk in with "I am not sure what I want" leave happy with spaces they feel resonate with their personality more than they imagined before we started. We ask the right questions, pick up on tacit communication, and read how you want to live. Studio Director Megan Bettor says: "The best designs start with listening, not planning."

In one project in Sausalito, the renovation was midway before the client went remote. We adjusted the course to provide them with a professional backdrop with in-built acoustic panels and sculptural lighting. It is this sort of agility that represents our collaborative approach.
