Interview with the Founder: The Vision Behind L+P Interiors
Every home tells a story — but few tell it as elegantly as L+P Interiors.
Based in the picturesque waterfront town of Sausalito, California, L+P Interiors — also known as LARK + PALM — has been quietly shaping some of the Bay Area’s most personal and visually compelling residential spaces since 2018. The award-winning firm blends architectural sensitivity with a love of storytelling, creating homes that don’t just look beautiful — they feel deeply lived in.
In this behind-the-scenes conversation with Founding Principal Ansley Majit, we explore the heart and philosophy behind L+P Interiors, the art of “Classic with a Twist,” and why their design process starts not with a floor plan, but with listening to your story.

A Foundation Rooted in Storytelling
When you ask Ansley Majit why she founded L+P Interiors, she doesn’t launch into a list of awards or design credentials. Instead, she talks about people.
“The best part of design is learning who our clients are and what matters to them,” she says. “It’s not about imposing a style — it’s about drawing out their story and turning it into a space they can live and grow in.”
In 2018, after years of honing her craft and refining her vision, Ansley launched L+P Interiors with a mission to create homes as personal narratives. This approach became the firm’s hallmark: blending classic architectural sensibilities with unexpected, playful details that make a home feel like you. She calls this Classic with a Twist — a mix of timeless forms and curated surprises.
The vision is shared across her talented team. Studio Director Megan Bettor brings over two decades of advertising and entertainment production experience, making sure projects run with precision and care. Junior Designer Malia Lucey and Design Assistant Grace Heller each contribute unique perspectives, adding to the studio’s collaborative energy.
The DNA of L+P Interiors – Design with a Point of View
If you had to distill L+P Interiors’ work into a single phrase, it might be elevated but practical. Every project marries form and function — a beautiful dining room is also a place where kids can do homework, a serene bedroom still has space for morning yoga, and a sun-filled living area is designed to age gracefully with the family.
“A house isn’t a showroom,” Ansley explains. “We want spaces that are layered, curated, and personal, but also ones you can live in every day.”
This balance comes from listening to more than just design preferences. L+P considers a home’s architecture, site, and surrounding environment to ensure every choice feels rooted in place. A Napa Valley home might pull in natural stone and rustic textures, while a San Francisco condo could call for clean lines and urban sophistication.

Telling Client Stories Through Spaces
For L+P Interiors, design is storytelling in three dimensions.
Look at their Belvedere project, a waterfront property where the family needed a peaceful, airy surrounding and one that reflected their active lifestyle. L+P used soft, neutral colours and custom furniture and added some playful art, and designed a kitchen island with the dual purpose of serving as both a social area and a homework space. The result is a luxurious house that is never off-limits.
At St. Helena, the issue became how to maintain the charisma of a historic property and satisfy the demands of a contemporary family. L+P did not compromise on the character of the architecture, with exposed beams and original windows, but also made functional improvements, such as creating a mud room to store outdoor clothing and equipment and more versatile dining areas to host guests.
After the last reveal, one client said to Ansley, “It feels like you designed the house we always dreamed of, but never knew how to describe.” Precisely. The colour of the throw pillows, the shape of a bannister is selected to show a life, not a look.

Beyond Large Renovations – Design for Every Scale
A common misconception? That L+P Interiors only takes on massive, whole-home transformations. As a matter of fact, the team adores projects of every scale, starting with styling updates and furnishing refreshes and ending with large renovations and new constructions.
Even one room can alter your attitude towards your house sometimes. Ansley recalls a smaller project where the client simply wanted their living room to feel more “grown-up” without a full remodel. By introducing layered lighting, a statement rug, and reconfigured seating, L+P created a completely new atmosphere, without touching the walls.
“We’re creative with scope,” Ansley says. “You don’t have to wait for the ‘forever home’ to enjoy a space that reflects you.”
For those starting smaller, L+P brings the same level of bespoke attention and elevated design thinking as they do to full builds. It’s all about impact, not just scale.

The L+P Interiors Client Experience
At L+P Interiors, we consider our role to be more than just a single meeting, but rather a full relationship. The team takes care of everything from the first consultation, calendars, sourcing materials, and account coordination. We take care of all the details so you can focus on the exciting stuff: watching your vision come to life.
Ansley refers to it as a concierge-level design service. Each project will have a transparent process and regular updates, as well as a willingness to involve everyone in every decision. Clients also have the liberty to be as involved or uninvolved as they wish in the process, as they understand that the final product will be beautiful and personal.
One recent client put it simply: “They made the process easy, even fun. We felt heard every step of the way.”

Elevating Interiors Across the Bay and Beyond
Although L+P Interiors is based in Sausalito, it serves a much wider area. They have redesigned homes in Belvedere, Marin County, Napa Valley, St. Helena, San Francisco and even in Nantucket. Every place has its taste to it; coastal breezes will affect airy palettes, wine country will be used to inspire organic textures, and city living will require clever use of space.
No matter the location, the goal is the same: to create a home that reflects both its environment and the people inside it.
